Butternut Squash “cheez“ sauce! A nut free, dairy free alternative with butternut squash, hummus, nutritional yeast, and garlic!
This is an amazing Butternut Squash “Cheez” Sauce is an beautiful alternative if you don’t want to use nuts or simply want a cheese sauce alternative that is packed with flavor and nutrients. I use this sauce on my Creamed Spaghetti Squash but it would also be great on pasta for a fun twist on mac and cheese, in lasagna, as part of a soup base, or over roasted veggies!
I got this idea for this recipe because my friend is allergic to dairy but also recently found out she is also allergic to nuts to many of the cashew or almond based alternatives won’t work for her. I’ve been making this recipe a lot in lieu of the cashew based cheese sauce and I’m loving how much lighter it is. I know I get enough good quality nuts in my diet so this is a wonderful alternative and fun way to extra add veggies in.
Make ahead:
This recipe can easily be made in advance. Make it over the weekend and add to pasta, vegetables, or soups throughout the week. You could also make a big batch and store in the freezer to have on hand whenever you may need. It will keep in the freezer for up to 6 months.
